Ecuador
Yellow fever vaccination requirement
Effective 12 May 2025
To support regional health efforts and comply with the International Health Regulations (IHR 2005), Ecuador’s Ministry of Public Health has introduced a yellow fever vaccination requirement for travellers entering the country, effective 12 May 2025. This measure forms part of Ecuador’s ongoing commitment to public health and aims to prevent the spread of yellow fever in a coordinated and proactive way.
Who this applies to: All travellers to Ecuador must present a valid International Certificate of Vaccination against yellow fever if:
- They are a citizen or resident of Peru, Colombia, Bolivia or Brazil; or
- They have visited or transited through any of these countries for ten days or more before entering Ecuador.
This applies regardless of nationality or residency. The yellow fever vaccine must be administered at least ten days before travel, and the certificate remains valid for life. Physical or digital certificates are accepted.
NOTE: Travellers aged 60 and over are exempt from the yellow fever vaccination.
Domestic travel within Ecuador: If travellers are an Ecuadorian citizen or resident planning to visit high-risk areas in the Amazon region, including Sucumbíos, Orellana, Napo, Pastaza, Morona Santiago and Zamora Chinchipe, they are advised to be vaccinated at least ten days before travel.
Ecuador looks forward to welcoming all guests and places the highest value on the health and safety. Travellers are encouraged to plan ahead, get vaccinated and carry the necessary documentation when entering the country.

&Beyond Vira Vira: Impact updates
We’re excited to share some meaningful developments from our lodge that reflect our ongoing commitment to sustainability and community impact.
Reforestation of the temperate rainforest: Starting in the 2024–25 season, we’re proud to support the reforestation and restoration efforts led by Cooperativa Lemu, a local co-operative dedicated to preserving natural ecosystems. Their work involves collecting seeds from indigenous trees and shrubs of the temperate rainforest—an ecosystem unique to our region. Our support will help fund the planting of over 200 trees, covering the entire process from seed collection and nursery care to final planting.
Debris removal in Villarrica National Park: This season, we launched a project to clear the remnants of an old shelter in Villarrica National Park, destroyed by strong winds. Our guide, Simón Serrano, began removing debris on each visit. During one of these efforts, a guest witnessed his dedication and generously offered to cover the full cost of the removal. With support from CONAF (Corporación Nacional Forestal) and a certified local rubble-removal company, the site has now been fully cleared.
Waste-reduction measures: With the launch of our new recycling programme (covering glass, cardboard, plastic and cans, and involving every department), we’ve successfully reduced overall waste by 10%.
Eliminating single-use plastic: We’ve transitioned to using only glass bottles across guest rooms, the bar-restaurant and all excursions. This shift has eliminated more than 6,000 plastic bottles annually.
Organic garden produce: More than 50% of the vegetables and decorative flowers used in our restaurant now come directly from our own organic garden.
Local cheese production: Over 90% of the cheeses served at our restaurant are produced locally in our on-site cheesery, highlighting our commitment to quality, sustainability, and supporting local artisans.
