Welcome to Iguazu Falls, a masterpiece of nature straddling the border between Argentina and Brazil. Taller than Niagara and wider than Victoria Falls, this destination offers unmatched beauty with smaller crowds.
Local legend tells of a god who had his heart set on marrying a woman named Naipí, but she was in love with a mortal man, Tarobá. The couple fled together in a canoe, but the god caught up with them and in his anger split the river, creating these waterfalls and condemning the lovers to an eternal watery descent. Translated from the native Mbyá-Guaraní for ‘big water’, Iguazu Falls consist of 275 separate waterfalls that pump 1.5 million litres (400,000 gallons) of water per second. Want to experience this roaring power up close? Step aboard an exclusive guided tour of Iguazu Falls on a jet-powered boat ride.
Iguazu Falls is a year-round destination, but the best time to visit is during the mid-season (July to October or February to April). The weather is ideal during this time, and the parks on either side tend to be less crowded.
Explore both the Argentinian and Brazilian sides on luxury Iguazu Falls tours with private guides who bring the myths, legends and history of this UNESCO World Heritage site to life. The Brazilian side is smaller, but offers breathtaking panoramic views of the falls from multiple angles. The Argentine side is much larger, featuring three main circuits plus the optional Macuco Trail for trekking enthusiasts. Each circuit provides a unique way to experience the falls, so plan to spend more time exploring this side. However, for an unparalleled perspective, take to the skies on a thrilling helicopter tour. Both sides of Iguazu Falls are exceptional, and visiting each one is the best way to experience the full grandeur of the area.
