The spirit of The Dutch House
Bandarawela is a bustling little market town and tourist haven in Sri Lanka’s central highlands. This colonial-era town, located near to Ella and Nuwara Eliya, features a few places of interest including the Dowa Rock Temple and the Church of the Ascension.
The Dutch House is a stunning two-story villa immersed in a colourful, lush garden in Bandarawela. A beautiful boutique space, it is ideal for couples, a family or group of friends of four. Rooms can be booked individually or the villa can be hired in its entirety. Well-appointed rooms feature two loft-style double rooms that are gloriously light and airy. One bedroom features a queen-size bed and the other two twin beds. Exposed timber beams and sloping rooms create an inviting ambience, and both rooms offer ensuite bathrooms with hot showers.
Relish Sri Lankan cuisine prepared by the in-house chef, including hearty curry and rice, and delicious salads with fresh local produce that is hand-picked from the local market. Browse through the Sri Lankan cookbooks in the kitchen and ask the chef to create any dish your palate desires. Appreciate the excellent fare while nestled in the garden, on the veranda or in the snug dining room. Enjoy delicious Ceylon tea, coffee, fresh juices and scrumptious snacks throughout the day. There are no alcoholic beverages available; however, you are welcome to bring your own. Enjoy a comfortable lounge with a crackling fireplace, spacious dining room and fully equipped kitchen. Gaze at the magnificent mountain views while sipping cups of steaming tea from your veranda, and tune in to the natural sounds around you of whispering leaves and pretty birdsong. Play a board game or watch DVDs in the comfy lounge, and make a splash in the clear indoor swimming pool. Spend days in the sunshine and explore your surrounds on a tea hike, trekking to Lipton’s Seat, a fabulous spot to survey the vast expanse and a treasured place of tea pioneer Sir Thomas Lipton. Explore the Adisham Monastery, with picturesque rose and vegetable gardens, and take a dip in the cascading waterfalls of Dunhinda, Diyaluma, and Ravana Ella.
