Sri Lanka’s lush green mountains fade into the mist covered distance while waterfalls cascade and pour down breathtaking hillsides. Many believe this helps to rejuvenate one’s health. The best way to reach Hatton, deep in the heart of Sri Lanka’s tea country, or Nuwara Eliya is by train. Travelling by car is also a pleasant journey as the road winds its way upwards through the magnificent hills of the countryside.
Estate workers can be seen deftly plucking tea, which they fill into large baskets carried on their backs. Visiting a tea plantation is a rewarding experience as visitors get to learn more about the process of making tea as well as some interesting bits of history on its introduction to the country. Nuwara Eliya is also the base for visits to the Cloud Forest in and around Horton Plains National Park.
