Sri Lanka’s south coast is full of varied promise. To the east, the old fishing harbour of Hambantota is now home to a fine 18-hole golf course. A popular destination along the coastline is Tangalle, a 4 miles (6 kilometre) wide bay with picturesque golden sandy beaches, palm trees and rocky coves.
The beach at Rekawa Village, located just 6 miles (10 km) away is an important nesting site for sea turtles; where turtle watching excursions are conducted after dark by the Turtle Conservation Project.
Hotels and villas in this area are within close proximity to the Uda Walawe, Yala and Bundala National Parks, where adventure-filled day excursions abound. Further west is the fishing harbour of Mirissa, which is also the base for whale watching between late November and early April.
