Water Garden Sigiriya

Beautiful villas featuring spectacular views of the ancient Sigiriya Rock

The spirit of Water Garden Sigiriya

Sigiriya is an ancient city featuring beautifully manicured gardens, complete with sparkling pools, ponds and cascading fountains, defensive moats and fortifications, and a monastery; with the highlight being the two-hundred metre high rock that protrudes from the relic. King Kashyapa I built his fortress on top of this massive rock, ensuring it would be indestructible, and no one could gain access to it. Archaeologists believe that the rock once sheltered Buddhist monks in the 3rd century BCE. The entrance to the castle is through the mouth of a lion, and is flanked with its enormous paws. Over time the head has since collapsed. Stunning frescos adorn the walls in the Cobra Hood Cave, and the view at the top of the fortress is utterly breath-taking, and well worth the challenging climb up.

Situated just six kilometres (4 miles) from the impressive Sigiriya Rock, the beautiful Water garden Sigiriya features a selection of exquisite villas. Offering contemporary, sophisticated interiors, and intimate secret gardens, the Deluxe Villas, partially submerged in water, are tastefully furnished and offer sublime views of the estate’s streams and pools. The Superior Deluxe Villas and Duplex Twin Villas blend beautifully into the surrounding colourful gardens and feature private plunge pools, a glorious sun deck to while away the hours, and sensational views of the Sigiriya Rock.

A wonderful selection of international and locally-inspired menus await at the main restaurant, and refreshingly chilled cocktails can be savoured in the Twin Level Bar, which boasts exceptional views. Adventures abound close by. Explore the area and visit the famous Sigiriya Lion Rock. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a highlight of any trip to Sri Lanka. Nearby, the Dambulla is an ancient kingdom well-known for its stunning terrain and significant religious sites, and the Minneriya National Park, a great destination to capture sightings of wildlife.
