The gateway to Rajasthan and part of India’s famed Golden Triangle, Jaipur (also known as the Pink City) is a fascinating mix of ancient forts, royal palaces and vibrant bazaars with modern shopping malls and busy commercial centres.
At the heart of Jaipur is the historical 18th century old city, surrounded by huge fortification walls and entered through eight towering gates. Timeless bazaars are crammed with colourful textiles, beautiful pottery and the region’s famed jewellery.
The focal point of the city is the Palace of Winds, a five storey Baroque-inspired structure built to allow the veiled ladies of the harem the opportunity to observe the street scenes below while remaining unnoticed.
