Sri Lanka is one of the world’s largest exporters of tea. Deep in the very heart of the ‘tea country’ is the bustling town of Hatton, which is about 130 kilometres from the capital of Colombo.
High on the south central hills, at an elevation of about 4 500ft, the city is just a 3 to 4 hour, scenic drive from the airport that takes you over and around the mountains. An alternative to the scenic drive is a wonderful journey by train.
This might take you longer to get there but it undoubtedly offers even more breathtaking views. As you get closer to the tea slopes you will experience a kaleidoscope of colour as tea pluckers dot the hills in their colourful sarees. Sri Lanka Hatton is a not to be missed destination.
