Whilst traditional game drives within the Munywana Conservancy are core to this safari adventure, other activities include e-biking through &Beyond Phinda Private Game Reserve’s rare Sand Forest, time with a dedicated Wild Impact guide exploring some inspirational community projects, sleeping out under the stars, and an unforgettable rhino dehorning or notching experience.

You will stay at the breath-taking &Beyond Phinda Zuka Lodge, a sole-use lodge in the southern reaches of &Beyond Phinda Private Game Reserve, which offers its own private vehicle and guide, butler, and chef. Departure dates have been carefully selected around the best climates of the year, to ensure that you are able to make the most of your adventure.

A taste of what to expect…
Day 1
Welcome to Phinda Private Game Reserve
- Upon arrival at OR Tambo International Airport, you’ll be met by an &Beyond representative who will assist you onto your flight to &Beyond Phinda Private Game Reserve. Your specialist guide will meet you at the airstrip and transfer you to &Beyond Phinda Zuka lodge.
- Embark on your first afternoon game drive in which you’ll explore the wonderworld of the Munywana Conservancy. This reserve is renowned for sightings of the iconic Big Five, cheetah and rhino.
Day 2
Game drives, e-bike excursion and ranger tracking skills
- Enjoy a game drive en route to your morning e-bike excursion which will take you through the ancient surrounds of the rare Sand Forest. On this outing, you’ll be introduced to a hidden world of medicinal plants, tree orchids, and, if you’re lucky, the elusive Narina Trogon.
- This is also an ideal opportunity to focus on the tracking skills needed by each &Beyond guide and tracker; participate in some fun track and sign exercises.
Day 3
An introduction to bird-ringing, and a sleep out in the wild
- Don’t forget your binoculars as you head out for today’s birding experience.
- Take part in a bird ringing exercise which entails netting birds, recording some key measurements, and ringing (tagging) the birds, before releasing them.
- This evening you’ll enjoy a lantern-lit sleepout under the stars – toast the sunset while your guide prepares a delicious meal. Fall asleep after fireside chats to the sounds of the bush, secure in the knowledge that your night guard will keep watch.
Day 4
Interactive walking safari and gin tasting experience

Embark on a walking safari from your sleep out camp, and navigate back to the lodge, recalling your birding, tracking and tree identification skills along the way. Conduct a tracking exercise, using the skills you have learnt, and spot fresh elephant, buffalo or rhino tracks.

Delight in an afternoon game drive complete with a fun-filled session of gin tasting in the bush.
Day 5
Local community visit followed by an immersive afternoon safari

This morning your dedicated Wild Impact Guide will collect you for a day visit to a local community just outside the reserve.

This interactive outing will include several community-led projects that Wild Impact, our community and conservation development partner, is facilitating.

Spend quality time at a local school where you may sit in on a morning assembly, or take part in a lively environmental education lesson. Visit a local “hustle-preneur” and find out how their small business is taking shape in the rural economy. Learn some fascinating facts about Zulu culture.

No community visit would be complete without a stop at the Mbhedula Craft Market.

Enjoy your packed lunch as you head back to the lodge for tea, followed by another exciting game drive.
Day 6
Conservation day; participate in conservation and research experiences
- Today brings a deep dive into the world of conservation; accompanied by a member of our Conservation Team, you will have the rare opportunity to participate one of the reserve’s signature conservation activities that support the monitoring and protection of key species in the conservancy.
- This may involve the ear-notching / dehorning of a rhino, or another interventive conservation experience.
- Today’s activities will also include an introduction to the role of telemetry equipment that is fundamental to protecting threatened species and gathering crucial research data.
Day 7
Departure
- Take some time over breakfast to savour the learnings, highlights and experiences of the last 6 days.
- Your specialist guide will transfer you to the airstrip for your return flight. Don’t forget to take your last aerial look over the conservancy…until your next visit.

Conditions
- Rates are quoted on a per person sharing basis.
- Cost is based on minimum of 4 guests and with a maximum of 6 guests. Additional supplements will apply for a 7th and 8th guest. Only 4 rooms available at andBeyond Phinda Zuka Lodge.
- A single supplement of 50% applies from the first single room.
- Single traveller supplement and child rates will be quoted on request.
- Due to the nature of the itinerary, the minimum age of children allowed will be 16 years. Should the entire group comprise of one party and there are children under 16 we would be able to adjust the course content in order to cater for younger children.
- May not be combined with other offers. However, additional nights may be added by using our applicable long-stay rates.
- Flight rates are subject to change.
- All flights route through Nelspruit - Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport.
- Camera and lense equipment will not be provided. Guests are required to bring their own.
- &Beyond may need to pass on cancellation/amendment costs once bookings including the flight offer have been confirmed
