Each shift introduces a change in pace, environment and cultural context, gradually moving away from the density of the valley into the more elemental terrain of the trans-Himalayan region. At its centre is the Tiji Festival in Lo Manthang, a three-day ritual that continues to be observed as part of local tradition. Set within a former walled kingdom that remained closed to outsiders until relatively recently, the festival offers access to a cultural event that is both geographically and historically remote.
Throughout, Tashi Tenzing, grandson of Everest legend Tenzing Norgay, accompanies the journey, providing insight that extends beyond what is immediately visible, drawing on personal experience and a long-standing connection to the region.

Stay: Dwarika’s Hotel

Arrive in Kathmandu and settle into Dwarika’s Hotel, where traditional Newari architecture and craftsmanship are reflected throughout the property.
Time in the valley focuses on Nepal’s cultural and spiritual heart, with visits to Kathmandu Durbar Square, the markets of Ason and Indra Chowk, and the important pilgrimage sites of Pashupatinath and Boudhanath. These experiences offer an introduction to the country’s heritage and life.

Highlights: Fewa Tal, World Peace Pagoda, Annapurna range views
Fly to Pokhara, where the landscape opens towards the Annapurna range and the pace becomes noticeably slower.
Stay at The Pavilions Himalayas – The Farm, set among forest and farmland on the edge of the city. Time here may include a visit to the World Peace Pagoda or the lakeside surrounds of Fewa Tal, with mountain views and flexibility depending on arrival time and preference.

Continue by air to Jomsom, entering the Mustang region at approximately 2,800 m (9,186 ft), where the landscape shifts towards drier and more rugged terrain.
Your base is Shinta Mani Mustang, a design-led retreat positioned to explore the surrounding valleys and settlements. Over the coming days, discover villages such as Thini and Kagbeni, alongside sites including Jharkot and Jhong, with activities tailored to pace and preference.

Travel north into Upper Mustang, following the Kali Gandaki Valley and crossing high passes before reaching Tsarang at approximately 3,500 m (11,515 ft).
Stay at Maya’s Heritage Inn, a locally run lodge that reflects the architecture and materials of the region. Visits may include Luri Gompa, dramatically set within a cliff face, while the surrounding landscapes reveal the remoteness and distinct character of Upper Mustang.

Continue to Lo Manthang, the historic walled capital of the former Kingdom of Mustang, where traditional Tibetan culture remains deeply rooted.

GRANDSON OF EVEREST LEGEND, TENZING NORGAY
Explorer, entrepreneur, philanthropist and three-time Everest summiteer, Tashi Tenzing lives in Kathmandu and continues a remarkable Himalayan legacy. He is the grandson of Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, who, alongside Sir Edmund Hillary, made the first successful ascent of Mount Everest on 29 May 1953. His mother, Pem Pem, Tenzing Norgay’s eldest daughter, is also an internationally respected climber.
In 1993, Tashi led the 40th Anniversary Everest Expedition, commemorating his grandfather’s historic achievement. Together with his wife, Bandi Nima Sherpa, he also founded the Nepal Green Tara Foundation, supporting underprivileged children and marginalised communities across Nepal.
An engaging storyteller with deep insight into the Himalaya, Tashi is also an accomplished motivational speaker and successful fundraiser.
