Klein’s Camp, East Africa
Klein’s Camp, East Africa
Proud of his heritage, Karipoi is Maasai, born in Ololosokwan village, east of the northern Serengeti and is still living amongst his family and community there today. As a boy, Karipoi was responsible for helping his father shepherd the family’s cows, goats and sheep and it was during the many long hours he spent in the wilderness doing this, that his passion for nature was awakened.
In 2000, Karipoi was granted the opportunity to train as a chef at &Beyond Klein’s Camp but his heart longed for the natural spaces beyond the kitchen walls. Recognising that he demonstrated a keen aptitude for guiding, his lodge mentors soon sent him off to Mwewe Ranger Training School where he qualified as a ranger. He remains at Klein’s today, his home-from-home.
Karipoi is crazy about leopards. His reason, apparently, is that “…they always look so well-groomed and are always playing”.
Home is where the heart is… mine belongs to the Serengeti
