An unforgettable experience is whale watching around Mossel Bay, Wilderness, Sedgefield, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. Ocean Odyssey is the only close encounter permit holder and offers boat-based whale watching. Hop aboard a boat on a three-hour excursion from Mossel Bay to Seal Island and head around Victoria Bay and Herold’s Bay, both offering excellent vantage points to scan the ocean. If you are in Knysna cruise past the Heads, another incredible place to spot whales showing off their acrobatic abilities. Each year the southern right and humpback whales leave their icy feeding grounds off Antarctica and migrate to mate and calve in the warmer waters of the Southern African coastline.
Watch dolphins frolic in the waters of Plettenberg Bay and the Robberg Peninsula and the playful Cape fur seal community that makes the bay home. Southern right whales like to explore between the Athene shipwreck and the Keurbooms River in Plettenberg Bay and roll in the azure shallows close to shore.
