“You can’t protect a place unless you understand it. You can’t love it until you know it.”
I’m looking forward to meeting you soon on our journey through Chilean Patagonia and the Antarctic Peninsula.
Both Chilean Patagonia and the Antarctic Peninsula are dear to me. My deep connection to Patagonia began over three decades ago when my late husband Doug Tompkins and I left the business world to shift our careers to help fight biodiversity loss and climate chaos, focusing on largescale conservation projects in Chile and Argentina. Today, Tompkins Conservation and its offspring organisations, Rewilding Chile and Rewilding Argentina, have driven the creation or expansion of 15 parks, including two marine national parks. This work is far from over, in fact, it continues to expand and scale up. I’m thrilled that we will have the opportunity to visit the newest park-in-progress – Cape Froward National Park – on this expedition with &Beyond.
I’ve long felt that at the heart of protecting wild nature and intact ecosystems is coming to understand these places and even falling in love with them. I’m excited to embark on this expedition with you and &Beyond and Quark Expeditions—and to share a part of the world so close to my heart that needs our urgent care and attention.
I’m sure we’ll leave with a deeper understanding and love for the places we visit and all they encompass.

Wild Life documentary
Wild Life is a powerful documentary that follows conservationists Kris Tompkins and the late Doug Tompkins in their extraordinary journey to protect some of the planet’s most threatened ecosystems. Chronicling their ambitious efforts in South America, the film showcases their quest to create vast national parks and preserve critical habitats in Chile and Argentina. Blending breathtaking visuals with a deep exploration of their environmental activism, Wild Life captures the Tompkins’ legacy and the movement they inspired to rewild, restore, and preserve nature for future generations.
Hear it from someone who has truly “been-there-done-that” as Kris Tompkins unpacks what it takes to open a national park, while you explore South America mainland’s southernmost point, Cape Froward (Cabo Froward).
Learn a little more about how these two (wild)life-changing organisations came about, diving deeper into the outstanding work they do to help protect and preserve some of South America’s most endangered big cats.
