Claire Trickett

Born in South Africa, Claire actually grew up north of the equator in Canada (in climates far colder than she can actually handle). Yet her heart always remained in Africa, so it really came as no surprise when she eventually returned to her roots. South African born … and returned.

Moving back to Johannesburg in 2005, though perhaps a bit of a whim at the time, landed her what she considers to be her dream job: to be able to travel and write about it. The fact that she was joining a luxury travel company that also makes a meaningful difference to our planet and its wildlife and people was the absolute icing on the cake.

Armed with a Bachelor’s Degree in French from the University of British Columbia, followed by a diploma in Marketing Management from the British Columbia Institute of Technology, it was always the travel industry that had her eye. So Claire eventually took the plunge and with just a suitcase and two small boxes, she moved more than 16 000 km away from her family and friends.

A travel addict, keen photographer, sun worshipper and bush baby at heart, Claire has certainly had some enviable adventures. She has spooned sleeping lions and cheetah, photographed a pangolin, kissed giraffes, helped collect DNA from a rhino, climbed sand dunes, backpacked alone around Europe and Australia, slept under the stars in unfenced Big Five country, floated above the Masai Mara and Namib Desert in a hot air balloon, snorkelled the Great Barrier Reef, watched endangered sea turtles laying their eggs on &Beyond Mnemba Island and dipped her toes in Victoria Falls’ Devil’s Pool. Having ticked 30 countries off her bucket list, there are so many more she’d like to explore.

This self-confessed sushi addict, hater of the cold and persuasive travel writer is now &Beyond’s Group Editor and Social Media Manager, and when she’s not living between Johannesburg and Cape Town, Claire is off exploring with &Beyond and writing about her adventures in great detail here on our blog.
