Meet your private guides
Daryl Dell
Growing up on a horse, cattle and sheep farm in the Great Karoo, Daryl was always fated to become a naturalist. From a young age, he would spend entire days walking in the bush, fascinated by animal tracks, skulls, feathers and dung. After high school, Daryl embarked on a BComm, but when he found himself concentrating more on his bird book than accounting, he realised it was time to get back to the bush. He joined &Beyond Phinda Private Game Reserve in 2002. As part of the mentorship programme, he had advised and trained rangers, while also earning his Grade 2 Walking qualification, allowing him to track dangerous game, including buffalo, black and white rhino and elephant on foot. He quickly climbed the ranks from Assistant Head Ranger to Head Ranger, became a Grade 2 Walking Assessor, was later promoted to Specialist Guide and is now a fully-qualified Private Guide.
