The Lámbarri Orihuela Family Hacienda Huayoccari
Somewhere between Pisac, Ollantaytambo, and Chinchero, in the heart of the Sacred Valley, the Urquillos Ravine opens up boasting unrivalled mountain views. It is here the Hacienda Huayoccari’s New House idyllically sits. Built in the mid-twentieth century on a mountainside, as was the custom of the Incas, New House seeks to welcome guests to the picaresque region from all corners of the globe.
For more than a century the Lambarri Orihuela family has lived at Hacienda Huayoccari, worked its lands and looked after this farming estate devoted to the much-loved giant white corn. Travellers to the estate are welcomed with open-arms as if they were family. In fact, after your grand arrival, a visit to Hacienda Huayoccari begins with a pisco sour and an intimate tour of the family’s art collection. A selection of artworks presents a detailed overview of the art created by the different inhabitants of the Peruvian Southern Andes providing guests with an authentic taste for the region and the mysteries and wonders that accompany it.
Guests’ are further spoilt to the estate’s outstanding, yet homey, cuisine. Sitting around the family table, enjoy the hospitality of a traditional Peruvian family serving authentic homemade Peruvian food. Here you can find Peruvian classics such as an exquisite trout and tuna causa, a delectable ají de gallina or a succulent lomo saltado. Other delicious regional dishes include sara lawa, an Andean white corn creamy soup and a tender, rich pork chop with a fava bean capchi, served just as it would by a Cusco family at home.
What we love about Hacienda Huayoccari
- Travellers are welcomed to a flower-filled patio and a terrace full of native orchids. Stop and smell the dozens of orchids, most of which are native to the region and have been collected and nurtured for decades.
- One of the reasons why the house was originally built was to host the art collection of Don José and his descendants, and has since become a cultural center for the Cusco region.
- Hacienda Huayoccari’s offers guests horse rides around the hacienda or to surrounding areas, as well as Peruvian Paso horse demonstrations.
