Set within a 16-acre natural forest bordering Kanha National Park, Kanha Earth Lodge offers a considered and low-impact base for exploring one of India’s most established tiger reserves. The lodge is located near the Khatia entrance gate, allowing for efficient access to the park while maintaining a sense of separation from its busier edges.
Designed using local materials and traditional Gond architectural principles, the lodge’s 12 standalone cottages are spaced widely across the property, each positioned for privacy and a strong connection to the surrounding forest. Interiors are simple and well-resolved, with open verandahs, locally crafted furnishings and large windows that bring in natural light and views of the landscape.
The experience here follows the rhythm of the safari day. Early mornings and late afternoons are spent in Kanha National Park, where diverse habitats of sal forest, grassland and bamboo support a wide range of wildlife, including tiger, leopard, wild dog and barasingha. Between drives, time at the lodge is unstructured offering an opportunity to rest, read or spend time observing birdlife within the property itself.
Operations are intentionally measured. The lodge runs on solar power, avoids unnecessary excess and works closely with surrounding communities, both in staffing and in sourcing materials. This is not a place of spectacle, but of consistency and care with a setting that supports the experience of Kanha without competing with it.
