The spirit of Gangtey Lodge
The spectacular setting is a real draw at Gangtey Lodge, a new lodge built from stone and wood to a design inspired by traditional Bhutanese farmhouses. From the informal lounge-restaurant there are knock-out views of the beautiful Gangtey Valley from its floor to ceiling windows, while relaxing in a leather sofa or over a bowl of soup at a long communal dining table. Two impressive fireplaces encased in local stone keep it nice and cosy, ensuring guests can enjoy the pristine Bhutanese countryside all year round.
The 12 rooms are very natural looking, but not short of luxurious trimmings, with stone floors, exposed brick walls, dark wooden beams, and furniture dressed in earthy tones. There’s a fireplace here too and feature windows with uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape that’s perfect for watching shooting stars in the velvet night sky or simply viewing the large moon from the balcony with warm packs and towels.
What we love about Gangtey Lodge
- The great location, splendid service and great base are perfectly for exploring the Gangtey Valley
- Being serenaded by the staff with sweet Bhutanese songs when you first enter the lodge
- Learning traditional Bhutanese board games around a roaring fire, or archery on the stately grounds
