Etendeka Mountain Camp sits deep in the Grootberg landscape, where the Etendeka Mountains rise in dramatic folds and the desert seems to stretch without interruption. This is a place for long views, slow walks and the rare pleasure of almost total quiet.
The camp is simple, considered and close to the elements. Walk-in tents include comfortable beds, private verandas and outside bathrooms with solar-heated bucket showers. The design keeps things pared back, allowing the landscape, light and silence to do most of the work.
At the heart of camp, an open-sided dining area and tented lounge look out towards the mountains. Meals are cooked over coals and served al fresco or beneath canvas, while sundowners gather around the campfire. Days unfold on guided scenic and nature trails or open 4×4 game drives, with the land revealing itself slowly to photographers, naturalists, astronomers, geologists and anyone with a fondness for space.
