The hum of a million wildebeest. The refreshing smell of petrichor as the first raindrops fall on your skin, followed by thunder and lightning, much like an eagle soaring over Africa’s endless plains. Your pounding heart as you track a black rhino on foot. Feeling Africa’s energy as you walk across sandy white beaches and among the clouds high up in the mountains. Guests who become lifelong friends. The goosebumps that appear as you watch your guest shed a tear at their first giraffe sighting. These, and so many others, have all been shared memories between my guests and me—humbling moments of joy and encouragement, urging us to learn to speak and, most importantly, to listen to Africa and her wildness. There’s more to experience than you can ever dream of.
I have spent almost half of my life with &Beyond in the safari industry, guiding and planning extraordinary journeys to some of the world’s top wildlife hotspots and most exclusive lodges. Building close friendships and nurturing relationships, ultimately ensuring that my guests have an indescribable time on their valued vacation.
Countries visited
Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Swaziland, and Lesotho. I’ve also guided in Ecuador and Costa Rica, exploring the Cloud Forest, Amazon, and the Galápagos Islands. Other countries I’ve visited include Switzerland, France, and the USA.
A few things I love travelling with
Binoculars (I can’t live without these), my camera, a diving mask, a good book (including the necessary guidebooks), a lack of shoes, and, most importantly, my family.
Favourite destinations
Botswana’s Okavango Delta and the Kalahari Desert. Imagine massive wilderness areas with incredible wildlife and bird viewing, crystal-clear water channels with pristine scenery that will take your breath away, and vast desertscapes with golden grasses found nowhere else on earth, unbelievable sunrises and sunsets, and blankets of dazzling stars above.
One of the most spiritual experiences is sharing a moment with a mountain gorilla, staring into their eyes, and becoming one with the family group. A transformative and exhilarating journey every human should have the privilege of experiencing.
I’m passionate about all aspects of the natural world and have a deep love for the ocean too. Snorkelling Mnemba Island’s reefs or scuba diving the unspoiled corals of Mozambique’s Bazaruto Archipelago are a must to end any safari adventure; the azure blues are out of this world. And don’t forget to ask me about dugongs!
A place I will always cherish, as I lived here for 21 years, is the incredibly diverse and special &Beyond Phinda Private Game Reserve. A truly remarkable wildlife space so close to my heart.
