Peru
Peru
My name is Carlos Seminario. I was born and raised in Cusco city, in southeastern Peru near the Urubamba Valley of the Andes mountain range. After college (where I majored in tourism), I moved to the Amazon where I trained as a naturalist guide. This is where I stayed for the next 11 years guiding guests across Peru, Brazil and Bolivia, as well as working closely alongside filmmakers and photographers. Since 2003, I have combined my passion for tourism and love for people, leading expeditions across Cusco, Machu Picchu, The Sacred Valley, Amazon, Andes, and the Peruvian coastlines. I have also spent time teaching and training other naturalist guides.
I am a keen birder, and enjoy guiding other avid birdwatchers through the Highlands, Peruvian coastlines and other prolific birding areas across South America in search of the country’s unique birdlife.
I currently live in Cusco city with my spouse, and two daughters.
A Partner Private Guide is someone in the industry we know and trust; an endorsed preferred expert in the region who embodies &Beyond’s core values and love for our guests and planet.
I have 28 years of guiding experience, and 14 years teaching experience in a technical college.
Predominantly Peru, and the Peruvian Amazon. I have also guided in Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, and along South America’s Pacific coastline.
I enjoy reading; a variety of genres from history and biographies to science magazines and novels. I have also practiced Origami since the age of 12.
I am extremely passionate about what I do, have a keen naturalist’s eye as well as an extensive knowledge of the Incan civilization.
The number one place on my bucket list is Africa.
The time I watched a male Andean condor land on a bromeliad plant near the Inca bridge in Machu Picchu, catch a small snake in its beak, and take off again.
I love travelling. Machu Picchu has captured my soul and the Amazon my heart. The sound of the ocean relaxes me. My hometown, Cusco, which was once considered the centre of the Inca Empire, and is now the centre of my life.
I am a people-person, and love working with all types of people. “Flexible” is my last name.
I have had many wonderful memories with guests, but the one that stands out is the time I travelled with a mother and her 12-year-old daughter through the Amazon.
They wanted to sleep on a canopy platform situated over 60 m (200 ft) above ground. That night we hardly slept, owing to our excitement for the various jungle sounds surrounding us and the incredible animals we saw. That evening we were lucky to see various owl, frog, salamander and a plethora of insects. Their love for nature was infectious, and it was very special to share such an intimate experience with them.
I love eagles. More specifically, the Harpy eagle. Eagles represent freedom and power.
