There are a variety of hikes available to suit every level of expertise. Choose to descend on foot, in cable cars or extend your venture up to Maclears Beacon, the highest point on the mountain. Platteklip Gorge offers the quickest way up, whereas the India Venster hike follows a less strenuous route up the face of the mountain, underneath the cable cars. The Lions Head hike, alongside Table Mountain, offers a steep climb with the assistance of chains or a more relaxed one without. No matter the route taken, every hike promises breathtaking bird’s-eye views over the city and coast.
Once you are at the top of this playground for nature lovers and outdoor fanatics there are stunning scenic walks that allow you to gaze at spectacular views, and explore the terrain. These glorious walks are neither long nor strenuous, and can be merged so that everyone in your party gets to see as much, or as little, as they want. You may plan a certain walk and then get waylaid by the cute lazy dassies that sun themselves on craggy rocks. For breathtaking views the Dassie Walk exhibits sweeping panoramas to the north, south and west. 360° aerial views of Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula are offered on the Agama Walk, and if you wish to hike to the brink of the plateau the Klipspringer Walk is a fabulous choice. Easy to navigate and on level ground these walks are effortless and incredibly rewarding with magnificent views.
