Set sail on the Cachalote, a custom-designed, five-star, 23-m (75-ft) vessel offering adventure in unmatched luxury. For their daring spirits, passengers are rewarded with boundless exploration in utter comfort. A dedicated five-person crew—comprising a captain, skipper, machinist, personal chef, and bilingual guide—is on hand 24/7 to ensure your every need is thoughtfully taken care of. Representing the pinnacle of sailing luxury, the Cachalote ensures a smooth journey while customising your Chilean adventure to match your interests.
Providing no better way to discover the canals than aboard this spectacle, Cachalote can accommodate up to eight guests in four air-conditioned rooms: one double room with a private bathroom and three double or triple cabins. Additional facilities include a spacious dining room and living area, complete with family games, as well as a covered and uncovered terrace perfect for morning coffee or afternoon sundowners. Not to mention, the ship’s exquisite flybridge boasts breathtaking, unobstructed views of the Chiloé landscape beyond. In your downtime, explore the canals on a stand-up paddle board (SUP) and immerse yourself in the rich marine life that calls these waters home.
Sustainability is at the heart of the Cachalote’s design. Its hydrodynamic hull and variable pitch propellers optimise engine efficiency and reduce fuel consumption. With the sails in use, fuel consumption can be reduced by up to 75%, or even to zero when the crew harnesses the full power of the wind. Additionally, 38 solar panels supplement the ship’s energy needs, reducing reliance on generators. Furthermore, constructed in Chiloé by skilled local teams, the Cachalote is crafted from FSC-certified timber and certified steel, blending sustainability with artisanal craftsmanship. The vessel is also equipped with cutting-edge navigation instruments, including the Panoptix system, which monitors underwater up to 300 m (984 ft), ensuring safe navigation and the ability to observe marine life, such as whales and dolphins, without disturbing them.
What we love about Cachalote
- Chiloé, one of the many islands dotting Chile’s the picturesque Lake District, is the second-largest island in South America. It is home to the Chiloé National Park, famously chronicled by Charles Darwin in The Voyage of the Beagle, where he detailed the region’s extraordinary wildlife.
- Private journeys aboard the Cachalote offer complete freedom, with customisable itineraries ranging from four to 10 days, tailored to each traveller’s preferences.
- Travelling with a personal, local chef means meals are not only crafted to your tastes and schedule but also provide a rare opportunity to savour some of Chile’s most exquisite culinary delicacies.
