Did you know that it is better not to wear dark blue or black in areas where there are tsetse flies?
This is because these flies, which look a little like a horsefly, have a nasty sting and can give you a welt. They are attracted to dark colours due to tsetse fly traps, which have pheromones to attract them, and are made with dark plastic sheeting.
So to reduce the risk of being stung, please wear light coloured clothing – khakis or pastel colours are best.
Please note:
Tsetse flies are not around after dark so this just applies in the day time when around woodland areas.
Always have some antihistamine cream or tablets with you or apply a cloth soaked in very hot water to try and draw out the sting.
