Cape Town, as a destination, offers so many treasures. From world-renowned restaurants; Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated; Table Mountain; Penguins; Winelands to name but a few. Often, when we’re travelling, we are looking for a little trinket or gift that will carry a memory of our trip, or to let a friend or loved one know that they were on our mind as we travelled.
Cape Town is rich with eclectic, arty and quirky bric a bric. It’s just knowing where to find it. I was recently in Cape Town and would like to share my top 5 treasure troves with you:
The Old Biscuit Mill is in Woodstock
It is an arty ensemble of shops with great shopping:
Clementina Ceramics – The Old Biscuit Mill
This shop offers beautiful ceramics with an African flair
Karoo Moon Country Store – the Old Biscuit Mill
This funky store offers an assortment of scarves, antiques, paintings, and countless other bric a brac
Fields Store – The Old Biscuit Mill
We can’t leave out the men… especially if they have the credit cards! Here you will find contemporary men’s wear with an African influence, in natural yarns sourced throughout Southern Africa
Quirky.Me –The Old Biscuit Mill & V&A Waterfront
This delightful shop has many African inspired gifts
One of my favourite stores is in the Kalk Bay area:
There is a stunning selection of jewellery designed with an African twist.
It’s always great to include a couple of days in Cape Town and the Winelands when you visit South Africa for a safari. It is easily combined with our &Beyond lodges in South Africa and Botswana, so when planning a safari to these destinations, obe should always look at adding in some time in Cape Town!
