There’s no denying that safari guides get asked some fascinating, often mind-boggling questions, especially from first-time safari goers who, in their defense, certainly wouldn’t know any better.
We love our guests and we encourage their keen curiosity about the natural world. We’d much rather they ask lots of questions to glean as much as possible from their interpretive experience. There is no such thing as a stupid question, in fact, the silliest question is the one not asked.
With this in mind, here is a light-hearted compilation of some of the most innocent questions and entertaining moments our rangers have experienced. All names have been removed, not only to protect the egos of our most charming and humorous guests, but also to ease the rangers’ guilty consciences for outing them.
If you are a first-time safari goer, please don’t let this hinder your curiosity. Keep asking questions and share your sense of humour. The guides are also guilty of some bashful moments: mistaking distant rocks for lions; noting the amount of ‘ticks’ on a rhino that were actually flies; getting stuck in the sand; and more. Going on safari is an adventure and the camaraderie and laughter among guests and their guide is what makes it so much more memorable.
