Although well-known renowned for cruises and ocean-adventures, mountain biking across the Galápagos Islands and its highlands makes for an invigorating land experience. In the archipelago, the islands of Santa Cruz and Isabella offer sublime biking opportunities with a diversity of trails passing by the quiet and breathtaking landscapes.
Santa Cruz Island has a large network of paths interconnecting the city of Puerto Ayora with its highlands, allowing bikers to cycle through small farms and communities such as Bellavista, Santa Rosa, and El Carmen. These cycle trips offers peddlers visits to much-loved tourist spots such as Cerro Coker and Media Luna.
On Isabela Island, one of the most popular places to cycle is the ‘Muro de las lagrimas’, a former island prison. Located approximately 5 km (3.1 mi) from Puerto Villamil, along the way bikers can obverse magnificent landscapes and coastlines. Alternatively, for the more adventurous riders, race downhill from the top of Sierra Negra volcano.
