The Ecuadorian Amazon is truly a site to behold. It is here that the Spanish conquistadors journeyed deep into its jungles in search of the legendary city of El Dorado. The pièce de résistance of Ecuador’s mainland landscapes, the untamed rainforests are a major drawcard for adventure travellers and nature enthusiasts.
Here, half of the country’s mammal species exist alongside enchanting indigenous tribes, in one of the world’s most bio-diverse regions. Encounter an incredible array of wildlife such as howler and tamarin monkeys, ocelots, tapirs, freshwater dolphins, the mighty jaguar, giant otters and a staggering variety of birdlife on incredible hiking and boating excursions.
Not-to-be-missed is a stop at the Napo Wildlife Centre, in the Yasuni National Park, which was built by the Kichwa Anangu community.
