Skeleton Coast Safari (Part of itinerary)
After a wholesome breakfast you will be driven to Eros for your departure at 10h00 to the Skeleton Coast via Conception Bay. The Kuiseb canyon and adjoining red dunes are a spectacular view from the air. The flight includes an aerial view of the famous Eduard Bohlen shipwreck at Conception Bay. After landing and refuelling at Swakopmund, we continue with a low-level flight north along the Skeleton Coast past the seal colony at Cape Cross for a light picnic lunch near the beach. After lunch we cross the desert by aircraft to the Ugab formations, a nearly lifeless ‘moon landscape' of numerous black ridges in stark contrast to the white desert floor. From here we proceed to our Kuidas camp in the Huab River Valley where we stay for the night. Ancient rock engravings are found amongst the rocks within walking distance of the camp. After breakfast we depart by Land Rover to explore the colourful red lava and yellow sandstone of the Huab River environs and to be introduced to the ecological aspects of this area with its wide diversity of flora and fauna. This includes the Welwitschia Mirabilis, a tree that has been dwarfed by the rigors of the encroaching desert climate. We have lunch at Kuidas camp before flying along the coast to Terrace Bay in the Skeleton Coast Park. The most prominent shipwrecks along this part of the coast are the Montrose and Henrietta.
SOSSUSVLEI HOT AIR BALLOONING
As the sun’s first rays peek over scarlet sand dunes, the hot air balloon drifts slowly upward revealing the undulating landscapes of Sossusvlei. This soul-satisfying journey offers excellent photographic opportunities and lifelong memories!
Your guests will be collected from their hotel (and later returned) for a three hour adventure that begins at the birth-place of Windhoek before viewing some of the diverse historical influences that created the city. A tour of Windhoek would not be complete without visiting the residential area of Katatura. This is the vibrant melting-pot of Windhoek’s culture. Here, guests will witness the many examples of Namibia’s traditional influences, visit open markets to sample true Namibian delicacies and then view the Penduka Development Project.
WALVIS BAY MARINE DESERT ADVENTURE
Your adventure begins in Walvis Bay, on board a beautiful catamaran. Here, you can explore the wonders of Namibia’s marine life as dolphins frolic in your wake and shy leatherback turtles surface nearby. You may also be lucky enough to view humpback whales, southern right whales and orcas (seasonal). Afterwards, you will disembark at Sandwich Harbour where you will be collected for an exhilarating dune drive in the Namib Naukluft Conservation Area. Your guide will let you in on the fascinating history of the area as well as point out some of Namibia’s prized wildlife. This adventure also includes delicious snack platters, locally cultivated oysters and sparkling wine.
Safely secured to a highly experienced and qualified tandem master, step out of an aircraft at 10 000 feet (3 000 metres) and delight in the thrill of freefalling through cloudless Namibian skies. With the parachute deployed a mere 30 seconds later, glide gently down to earth, taking in fantastic scenes of miles and miles of endless sand dunes.
SANDWICH BAY DESERT AND WETLAND TOUR
Travel from Swakopmund to Walvis Bay between a spectacular dune chain and the ocean shore, stopping at the guano island of Bird Rock. Visit Walvis Bay lagoon, a feeding site for flamingo, plover, pelican and others. Explore the windblown landscapes of the Kuiseb Delta, with its barren salt pans and hummock dunes. Watch out for ostrich, jackal and Cape foxes, as well as uniquely adapted geckos, lizards and snakes. Towering, wind-sculpted sandcastles guard the entrance to Sandwich Bay, where a solitary deserted building is the only trace of a once thriving whaling station and community of traders and fishermen. Enjoy a delicious picnic before taking a guided stroll around the lagoon or the surrounding dunes, keeping an eye open for seals, dolphin and whales.
LIVING DESERT ADVENTURE
This safari takes guests into the dunes between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay. Be captivated by dramatic vistas and the abundant geckos, rolling spiders, scorpions, lizards, snakes and chameleons that have made this desolate landscape their home.
