Conservation & Community
Throughout Africa and South Asia, &Beyond strives to create meaningful and lasting benefits for the natural environments and communities that are home to our luxury lodges, safaris and tours.
We adhere to a carefully crafted model of luxury experiential ecotourism, anchoring all of our African and Asian safaris and tours with our unique conservation philosophy of Care of the Land, Care of the Wildlife and Care of the People.
You can therefore rest assured that &Beyond offers African and Asian tours and safaris with a core focus on conservation - helping you enjoy all that these holiday destinations have to offer, while at the same time having as little impact on the natural surroundings as possible.
In essence, going on a safari holiday with &Beyond, means that you are able to directly contribute towards the land and wildlife conservation of our 9 million hectare footprint throughout Africa and South Asia. After travelling on safari or tour with us, you will come to appreciate that as the lucky
custodians of these beautiful destinations, it is therefore our responsibility to conserve their delicate eco-systems and respect the wild animals they’re home to, as well as educate surrounding communities on how to continue caring for them.
At each of our luxury lodges and safari destinations, we’ve invested in extensive training to produce expert safari guides and naturalists who are able to give you a deep understanding of each game reserve’s unique qualities and potential future challenges.
We tread lightly, build green safari lodges where possible, apply eco-sensitivity in all that we do and support the groundbreaking Rhinos Without Borders initiative. By doing all of this, we genuinely believe that we can help protect Africa and Asia’s threatened ecosystems, endangered species and their precious diversity of wildlife areas.
Our Community Development Partner
&Beyond’s community development partner, Africa Foundation, is an independent tax-exempt non-profit organisation registered in South Africa, the United States and the United Kingdom. Working together with &Beyond and in consultation with the communities themselves, Africa Foundation facilitates the socio-economic development of rural communities living in or close to the continent’s conservation areas. For &Beyond, our involvement with Africa Foundation represents our core tenet of Care of the People.
What Sustainability Means to &Beyond
The issues of sustainability and conservation form the core of our culture. The values and ethics of &Beyond are, and always have been Care of the Land, Care of the Wildlife, Care of the People. By creating a world-class safari and touring business grounded by this philosophy, we are able to maximise our ability to drive meaningful benefits into each and every safari and tour destination, and possibly extend the stability of the earth’s wild spaces.
Sustainability is an intuitive part of how we operate and has become increasingly part of the reason our guests find their &Beyond safaris and tours to Africa and Asia all the more rewarding.
We believe all businesses can take less and give more, and we seek to do this through our actions, big and small, each day. Whether it is pioneering the reintroduction of endangered species, such as black rhino or cheetah
breeding, preserving threatened sand forests or simply managing the vegetable peelings from our kitchens, we all consciously seek ways to leave a positive legacy for the earth.
Even though we have a relatively small physical footprint, in terms of buildings and number of guests, we can have a disproportionately large positive impact on the wildlife and people that are interwoven with &Beyond. Our entire group of safari lodges comprises less than 450 bedrooms (smaller than a mid-size city hotel), yet we help sustain more than 9 million hectares of the world’s most precious wildlife land.
We are "doing well by doing good" and it all starts with delighting each guest, and by creating a place where people travel with heart and feel nourished by what their holiday has meant to them and the world they've visited.
Precious Natural Resources
We believe that the wild spaces of Africa are a precious resource and that the only way to sustain them is through realising their true value. By placing an economic value on conservation and ensuring that the local communities benefit from our activities, &Beyond can guarantee that these wild areas have a future. However, we can only do this by engaging with those communities and through maintaining the value of Africa's wildlife regions by ensuring exceptional guest experiences.
Helping Realise our Vision
Our guests play a crucial part in helping us realise our vision. By travelling with us, our guests enable us to make many small but meaningful differences to the world that surrounds us. Whether it is coming face to face with a previously endangered rhino, shaking the proud hand of a local elder whose once destitute community now has a future or simply witnessing the sun rising once more over lands that have been restored to their natural splendour, our guests cannot fail to be touched by the contribution that they are making to &Beyond's work in Africa's wide open spaces.
Conservation, which is at the foundation of the &Beyond business, is the preservation and careful management of the environment.
The &Beyond guest experience revolves around the ancient drama of the great wildlife spectacles of the world - a natural theatre.
The &Beyond model of community participation has become the standard for ecotourism within the industry.
