Mack Air suspends flights between Namibia and Botswana 

Mack Air has suspended its scheduled flights between Windhoek and Maun indefinitely for 2021 and 2022. However, this route can still be booked on private charter basis.


COVID-19 entry protocol update

Kenya is likely going to be bringing in a new requirement that all arriving guests need to be fully vaccinated, effective 21 Dec 2021. We are awaiting official confirmation.

&Beyond rate update: Hot air balloon at &Beyond Kenya lodges

The 2022 rates for hot air ballooning at Bateleur Camp and Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp are now available.

Information still pending on Migori Airstrip opening 

We are yet to receive confirmation from Kenya Airports Authority about the Migori airstrip. However, airlines are accepting bookings for travel from 16 December 2021. In the event there is a delay in opening the airstrip, passengers will be re-routed via Wilson to Kilimanjaro. Revised costs may be applicable.

Safarilink delays opening of Wilson/ZNZ service

Safarilink has pushed back the reopening of their Wilson/ZNZ service to June 2022.

Airkenya revises min passenger requirement for domestic flights

The minimum passenger requirement for Airkenya’s domestic flights is now 2. The airline has also introduced Sasaab airstrip and Finch Hattons to its scheduled stops. 


&Beyond rate update: 2022 Helicopter flight rates available 

Helicopter flight rates to/from &BEYOND Benguerra Island are now available up until 31 December 2022.

The 45-minute scenic flight is no longer offered as a stand-alone activity but is available when booking &BEYOND’s “Soar over Sossusvlei” signature offer.

COVID-19 entry protocol update
  • Arrivals must self-isolate in designated hotels for 24hrs pending the result of a rapid PCR test administered on arrival at the airport
  • All arrivals from Southern Africa (South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Namibia and Eswatini) are required to quarantine for 7-days before being allowed to proceed into Rwanda

Cape Grace Update for 2022
  • Temporary cancellation policy of 7 days (instead of 28) remains in place until further notice (excluding festive season) 
  • New Mining Indaba dates (09-12 May)  
Federal Air: 2022 updates
  • Federal Air will only be offering one daily departure to and from the Lowveld and Madikwe from OR Tambo. This will increase to two departures between OR Tambo and both the Lowveld and Madikwe from 01 July onwards. 
  • Simplified seasons: 
    • Low season is now 01 Jan to 30 June inclusive
    • High Season is now 01 July to 08 January 2023
    • No more Peak Season
  • Simplified lodge and MQP Shuttle rates to make this one common rate, whether you fly lodge to lodge or lodge to MQP or MQP to lodge 
  • Extending SADC rates for all of 2022 and 2023
  • Fastjet Zimbabwe: Launching return flights between Victoria Falls & Nelspruit (MQP) on 16 March 2022. 
    • These flights will happen every Monday, Wednesday and Friday
    • These flights and the Fastjet flights between JNB & VFA can be booked directly with Federal Airlines 
    • The commercial payment terms will be applicable to the Fastjet bookings as well
  • Refurbishments:
    • A refurbishment and repairs to the Private Terminal and departure lounge facility at OR Tambo 
    • Totally remodelled the check-in area at OR Tambo to keep guests out of the sun and rain, whilst checking in  
    • Aircraft have had exterior and interior refurbs and touch-ups 
Royal Portfolio introduces new Birkenhead House Private Villas
  • These spectacular private homes, located in Hermanus, are perfect for families or groups of friends looking for an idyllic seaside escape
    • White House has six ensuite rooms, a large deck with sea views direct access to Hermanus’s best swimming beaches
    • Fernkloof House enjoys a premier position in a secure gated community opposite Hermanus Golf Course. It features five ensuite rooms, spacious living areas and a games room
    • Kliphuis offers excellent views over Walker Bay and quick access to the Hermanus cliff walk. It offers four ensuite rooms, a swimming pool, expansive deck and large courtyard
  • Each of the three villas comes with a full complement of in-house staff including a butler, chef, and housekeeping team  



COVID-19 entry protocol update

COVID testing for the Southern Serengeti will now be handled at the NCAA Headquarters on the crater rim – samples from FAME hospital and Seronera will be routed to this testing centre going forward. 

&Beyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge Update 
  • NEW Sleepout under the stars experience: 
    • This exciting new activity allows guests to spend an evening under a blanket of a million stars, on an unforgettable sleepout adventure. After a night game drive, guests will be ushered to a secluded and exclusive sleepout spot where luxuriously adorned beds, swathed in romantic netting, a private campfire, and all the amenities that guests require to feel comfortable, await them. Perfect for up two to four guests, over the age of 16.

  • Game viewing has been excellent (as per usual) with reports from our guides that the tree climbing lions, large herds of elephants and resident troops of baboons are providing excellent entertainment for guests. This year, however, the flamingos have been kept at bay, with limited sightings at the lake shore. This is due to the unseasonably high rain levels over the past two years, which have kept the lake level extremely high. 
  • BUT, instead of the vibrant pink attraction of the park’s famous birds, guests can look forward to enjoying the lodge’s beautiful, mini-makeover. Lake Manyara Tree Lodge underwent a soft refurbishment last year and our guest feedback on the new pool and deck, the new outdoor showers as well as refreshed softs and a spruced-up guest area has been fantastic.

Asilia to launch new camp in Ruaha National Park 

Asilia has formally announced that its new Usangu Expedition Camp will open 01 June 2022.

  • The camp will be in the Usangu Wetlands, in the far southern corner of the Ruaha National Park 
  • The expeditionary nature of this location allows for a diverse activity offering, featuring walking safaris, game drives, night drives, canoeing and boating 
  • With only four tents and two vehicles, Usangu Expedition Camp has a maximum capacity of eight guests or two groups at any given time, in an area twice the size of Luxembourg 
Coastal Aviation amends cancellation policy 

Coastal Aviation has amended its cancellation policy to a minimum of 14-days instead of the previous 48hrs. 


COVID-19 entry protocol update
  • All travellers (including children) must produce evidence of PCR negative test, conducted within 72 hours prior to departure from the country of origin. 
  • All travellers will be required to complete a short health questionnaire onboard and presented to health staff at the airport. 
  • All travellers from countries that have reported the Omicron variant, will be required to undergo mandatory quarantine for 10-days from the date of arrival, at their own cost. 
  • At this stage, quarantine regulations are seemingly not being enforced on the ground.


COVID-19 entry protocol update: 
  • The reopening of the Kazangula and Victoria Falls land border posts is only applicable to fully vaccinated guests. Guests will be required to produce a vaccination certificate and a negative PCR test at the border. Unvaccinated guests can only enter through a land border if they are transiting Zimbabwe and flying out the same day. 
  • Travellers are required to have negative PCR Health Certificates valid for 48hrs from the date and time of issue of such a certificate. 
  • Children below five years of age will not be required to produce a negative COVID-19 result. 
  • Every person arriving in Zimbabwe will get another PCR Test, at their own cost, done at the Port of Entry. Persons below the age of 61 months will be exempted from PCR testing on arrival.
  • Quarantine: 
    • Once tested, the person will proceed to a quarantine centre of their choice at cost to that person. Travellers testing negative will have to quarantine for 10-days and re-tests will be done on days 7 or 8. If testing positive, isolation of 14 days will be required. 
    • Each traveller shall book accommodation at the designated quarantine centres (lodges and hotels published by the MOHCC) on or prior to arrival. 
    • Transport will be provided by hotels/lodges. People failing to afford quarantine accommodation and/or transport will be handed over to Government Social Welfare Department.
  • At this stage, quarantine regulations are seemingly not being enforced on the ground.
