The first half of your adventure explores General Carrera Lake, otherwise known as Lake Buenos Aires, a deep body of water located in Patagonia, and shared by Argentina and Chile. Here, intrepid travellers will revel in an array of experiences*, from hiking and cycling to horseback riding and overland tours.
The second half of your journey takes you to Patagonia National Park. Created by Douglas and Kristine Tompkins, the National Park is an authentic hidden gem that exudes an intimate, peaceful and remote atmosphere. Here, nature flourishes in its most thriving form, captivating travellers with pristine landscapes and extraordinary wildlife. The lush expanses of temperate rainforest are dramatically punctuated by emerald-green lakes and snow-capped mountains, offerings countless experiences* including hiking, cycling, cruises and overland tours.

Upon arrival at Balmaceda Airport, located next to the village of Balmaceda serving the Aysén Region of Chile, you will be welcomed by an &Beyond representative and transferred to Mallin Colorado Ecolodge (an approximate 4-to 5-hour drive).
As you journey through the untamed landscape, each turn reveals a new perspective of the region’s raw, natural beauty. Gaze upon a horizon where the cerulean sky kisses the rugged mountain peaks, while emerald forests sprawl out as far as the eye can see. Home to countless natural treasures, this region is an exhilarating paradise for adventurers, nature lovers and tranquillity seekers alike.
You will be staying at Mallin Colorado Ecolodge for the next three nights. A secluded retreat set between General Carrera Lake and Bertrand Lake, the lodge exudes exclusive tranquillity, perfect for those seeking a peaceful escape with an adventurous touch.

Explore the scenic trails of Mallin Colorado on this four-hour hike. Along the way enjoy breathtaking views of Lake General Carrera while discovering the surrounding lush forests. Catch a glimpse of Mallin Colorado lagoon, known for its reddish flowers that float on the water and the majestic Cordón Contreras mountain range.
Accompanied by an experienced local gaucho guide (cowboy), enjoy a relaxing horseback ride in Mallin Colorado exploring the surrounding lush forests. Revel in picturesque views of Lake General Carrera and Lake Bertrand as well as Cordón Contreras mountain range. This adventure is also ideal for avid birdwatchers and photographers.
South of Mallin Colorado, approximately 35 km (22 mi) past the town of Puerto Bertrand, you’ll find La Confluencia. This majestic area marks the spot where the electric blue waters of the mighty Baker River collide with the milkier, glacial-fed River Nef River. Afterwards, you can choose to continue south to explore the Chilean town of Cochrane.
Enjoy a one-hour scenic drive to Bahia Mansa where, just before reaching Puerto Tranquilo, you’ll find the Marble Caves. This is an incredible opportunity to see these unique rock formations of calcium carbonate that have been shaped by the water movement for thousands of years. With such incredible sights on offer, don’t forget to bring your camera along.

Today marks the end of the first leg of your journey. After breakfast, you will be met by an &Beyond representative and transferred to Explora Parque Patagonia in Patagonia National Park (an approximate 2-hour drive) to begin the second leg of your next adventure.
Enveloped in Chile’s awe-inspiring wilderness, Patagonia National Park stands as a mesmerising testament to nature’s untamed grandeur. The park’s creation is the legacy of the visionary environmentalists, Douglas and Kristin Tompkins. Their dedication to conservation gave rise to this untouched masterpiece, a tranquil retreat where nature reigns supreme.
Spanning more than 260,000 hectares, the park is a harmonious blend of the Jeinimeni and Tamango reserves, stitched together by the turquoise-tinted waters of the Baker River, Chile’s most voluminous river. Boasting a medley of geographical wonders, from vast, windswept grasslands to dense, ancient forests, vibrant blue rivers and jagged peaks that dominate the horizon, the park is a showcase of immense natural beauty. The National Park’s array of life is just as captivating as its landscapes. It’s a refuge to an impressive variety of wildlife, from the majestic Andean condor, soaring high against the pristine skies, to the elusive puma, presiding over the wilderness from the shadows. Herds of guanacos are also a common sight, often seen grazing serenely against the backdrop of the park’s sprawling panoramas.
Tucked away within the glorious surrounds of the Patagonia National Park is the spectacular Explora Parque Patagonia. This is where you will be staying for the next three nights. Warm and inviting, this luxurious lodge offers a truly authentic Patagonian experience inspired by the natural beauty of the park’s surrounds. Forming part of a self-sustaining project, materials used throughout the property include stone from local quarries, recycled wood, and copper for the roof.
Over the next two days, you will have the opportunity to experience the region through an extraordinary mix of carefully curated and expertly guided experiences.

This half-day excursion takes you along the scenic Carretera Austral before venturing off to explore the stunning forests, rivers and lagoons that lead to the majestic Calluqueo Glacier. Once you arrive, you’ll be greeted by the sight of a murky glacial lagoon surrounded by walls of ice that have stood the test of time for thousands of years. Become immersed in your surrounds, from sitting and taking in the breathtaking views to walking around and exploring every nook and cranny. You can even dip your toes into the icy waters of the lagoon to experience the full majesty of the glacier.
