In October I was due to visit &Beyond Phinda Private Game Reserve for our annual Travel Specialist Indaba so I took the opportunity to add on some time in Sabi Sand Game Reserve and re-visit some lodges in the area before heading down to Phinda. The trip turned out to be a great opportunity to refresh on the contrasting differences between the Kruger/Sabi Sand area and Phinda and a reminder on how well they combine into one safari to offer a South African safari covering 2 unique habitats.
Sabi Sand was extremely dry at that time of year still awaiting the first of the summer rains, there was plenty predator action and you could almost feel the anticipation for the first rains. Flying into Phinda I was immediately taken aback by the contrasting lush green landscapes that lay below me and it was wonderful to then experience a land so alive – animals, birds, insects and abundant vegetation.
This is certainly a firm favorite combination for me for a South Africa Safari and one can easily spend 3 nights in each location for a week long safari or in combination with Cape Town, Victoria Falls or even some beach time in Mozambique.
Here are a few of my photos from this trip:
