The mega herd remains split, with half of the Great Migration grazing the Grumeti region of the Western Corridor, and the other half already positioned in the northern reaches of the Serengeti and spilling over into the Masai Mara.
Guests visiting the luxurious &Beyond Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp, as well as our two semi-permanent &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas camps, are literally in the midst of all the action. Not only are guests witnessing the start of the exciting Grumeti River crossings, but the camps themselves are also surrounded by the great mass of grunting gnus.
At Under Canvas, there has been plenty of nighttime excitement as lions stalk the herds. The sounds of the restless herbivores and roaring lions could be heard long through the night.
Guests at &Beyond Grumeti continue to enjoy poolside lunches overlooking the busy hippo pool, which is also surrounded by herds, with the occasional surprise appearance from hungry predators. Never a dull moment!
As the herds continue to move north, we expect the Mara crossings to commence in approximately two weeks’ time. Guests at &Beyond Klein’s Camp, &Beyond Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp and &Beyond Bateleur Camp are already witnessing the arrival of the enormous herds.
