I wouldn’t classify myself as an adventurous person at all – so if I can do this, so could you! Let me paint you a picture: I am scared of small planes and prone to motion sickness. Yet, by combining the right travelling companions with motion sickness wristbands and ginger tea, I enjoyed an incredible adventure.
The day that I remember most fondly, was when we traveled from &Beyond Bateleur Camp to &Beyond Klein’s Camp. Guests often find this a bit daunting when they look at the itinerary. I can assure you that we have amazing teams on the ground who make this work like clockwork.
Our day began with a beautiful 30-minute flight from Masai Mara over the highlands of Kenya to Migori, a small bush strip in the middle of nowhere. From here we took a one-hour road transfer in a sprinter vehicle to the border. This was one of my favourite parts, as we drove through bustling rural communities with vibrant roadside shops, which you often don’t see when you fly from lodge to lodge.
We then crossed the Kenyan border and after a short drive, we entered Tanzania.
Important to note is that you are required to carry a printed copy of your visa and a valid Yellow Fever Certificate with you at both sides of these border.
Then followed another short, 15-minute transfer after passing through Tarime Town to another remote airstrip. What a sight, seeing the plane standing in a field, and next to it, a lady selling a few curious and cool drinks!
At Lobo Airstrip we were greeted by our Klein’s ranger from where we did a game drive transfer to the lodge in a safari vehicle. On the way we managed to see parts of the migration which was one of the highlights of the day.
What a fun-filled, jam-packed day!
Although my travelling buddies and I stayed at various camps on this trip, in this post I would like to highlight &Beyond Bateleur Camp and &Beyond Klein’s Camp.
