The essence of walking trails
The Garden Route is a magnificent region in South Africa and a great way to experience its beauty is on a scenic walking trail. Explore a varied terrain of forests, dunes, mountains and rolling seascapes on walking trails and adventurous hikes for the more intrepid. The guided 63km (39mi.) five-day Slackpacker Trail traces the coast from Wilderness to Brenton through the Goukamma and the Wilderness section of the Garden Route National Park. Along the way hop into a canoe and leisurely glide along the Touws River and stop for invigorating swims in deep blue rock pools. For a shorter jaunt, the 6km (3.7mi.) Cape Dune Mole Rat Trail rambles through a wetland area and boasts magnificent birdlife. Other options include a three-hour Moonlight Meander and Starlight Stroll, or the Elephant Walk where you will be guided along former elephant trails in the Diepvalle Forest.
