KIRKMAN’S KAMP NOW OFFERS NEW TRAVERSING ON LION SANDS CONCESSION

&Beyond Kirkman’s Kamp and Lion Sands Private Game Reserve have entered into a five-year co-traversing agreement to maximize the exceptional game viewing opportunities for their guests. They will now be able to explore more than 6 500 hectares of prime wildlife land bordering 12km of Sabie River frontage and 11km of the Sand River respectively.

Situated in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, both Kirkman’s Kamp and Lion Sands are home to diverse types of soil and habitat and are renowned for exceptional leopard viewing, as well as excellent sightings of lion, buffalo, elephant, white rhino and giraffe, to name a few. The extra traversing area will also increase guests’ chances of spotting the rare black rhino, wild dog and cheetah, as well as a variety of bird species.

“We are delighted to offer this additional enhancement to our guests’ game viewing experience”, says Roelene Beumer, &Beyond Regional Director. “Our trackers are also now able to sit on the front seat of the game drive vehicles which will greatly assist them when following various tracks and ultimately sharing more exciting wildlife encounters with our guests.”

Both reserves share a similar environmental vision and are looking to build a long-term partnership based on sound conservation ethics. The agreement is based upon a “neutral impact” philosophy and will be managed on the ground by ecologists from both reserves.

A combined safari ethos has been developed which stipulates that co-traversing will be undertaken on a vehicle-for-vehicle basis, limiting the number of vehicles at sightings to two, stipulating the minimum viewing distance to 15m and off-roading after rainfall only permissible if 10mm or less rain has fallen.

Aside from monitoring vehicle traversing, both safari operations’ teams will meet on a weekly basis to ensure that the management and implementation of the practices is carried out efficiently and effortlessly.
