Eating out in Cape Town!
Cape Town – where to eat out at the very best restaurants!
Being somewhat of a “foodie” and being blessed enough to call the Chairman of the Chefs Association, my dearest friend, I am often out discovering new taste sensations and exciting restaurants both in the City Centre and the Winelands
Two very special restaurants that are a “must do” when visiting Cape Town are The Greenhouse at the Cellars Hohenhort, and my all time favorite, Bread & Wine on Morensons Wine Estate in Franschhoek.
The Greenhouse at the Cellars-Hohenhort, is nestled in the Constantia Valley and boasts serene and calm decor, and friendly relaxed service
Award winning Chef, Peter Templehoff, who is the Executive Chef for The Collection by Liz McGrath, has created the most superb Winter Menu.
Every dish is a surprise and a taste sensation…
Arrive early and visit The Martini – they have the longest list of Martinis served anywhere in the World; 228 cocktails on the menu and 152 different types of Martini! The wine list is super impressive – they offer the only complete collection if Vin de Constance in the World and even serve my favorite Moët & Chandon Champagne Petite Liquorelle Pétillante, which is the perfect way to end any meal
This is an intimate dining experience with innovative menus that will excite you from beginning to end
Then for a far more relaxed affair, and a long lazy lunch out in the Cape Winelands, there is nothing that competes with “Bread & Wine” – honest food in a rustic and relaxed setting
Neil Jewell, the Charcuterie guru, is the inspiration behind the menus and his new menu features his award winning pizza with Lamb, babaganoush and pepper dews, which is delicious
Both the Grilled Octopus (which Neil tells me is now being farmed in the Cape), served with a fresh tomato risotto and the Crispy Pork Cassoulet is divine. Follow that with the Apple and Sultana crumble with chantily cream and Neil’s famous sweet plate which is always a great hit with the children.
Fantastic food – fantastic setting – every long lunch here with friends, has been a truly memorable occasion
