Lake Manyara Tree Lodge show commitment to their Community Projects
Scott Tineja Mollel, the General Manager at Lake Manyara Tree Lodge, has over the years initiated some incredible work with the local Communities in the Manyara area. Today I would like to share his story with all of you ….. a story of commitment, a story that we can be proud of !
The Lake Manyara Tree Lodge Team have been working with and giving support to the village and school at Mayoka and having achieved much of what they set out to do, they decided to take on a new challenge, identifying a new school that was in desperate need of some very basic support.
Moya Primary School has 478 students and Scott and his team started building the school from scratch in partnership with the local Villagers. They initiated several projects including the planting trees and “Adopt a desk” which is a project that enables our guests to donate a desk should they wish to be involved in our community efforts. Each desk will properly seat 3 children and to date they have managed to raise funds sufficient to purchase 103 desks, as well as 5 sets of tables and chairs for the teachers. They have also received a very generous donation from the Runyon family, who are beloved Lake Manyara Guests, and these funds will be put to use building an administration block for the teachers, as previously the teachers have prepared their lessons while sitting under a tree outside. Also involved in this wonderful project is the Fry family, Barbara Mahoney, Susan McKenna and Peggy Goza, we are so grateful to you all. Building has already begun, and Scott has promised to keep us informed as to their progress.
Lake Manyara Tree Lodge has also recently received a further donation from their guests Marilyn and Don Perlyn, who very generously donated 45 desks which we just been delivered …. This is Scott’s account of delivery day and the handing over of the desks amidst much excitement.
“Finally the work is done and handed over to Moya school yesterday, We arrived at the school just a few minutes before the children were due to depart for lunch break and we admit it was not a great time for us to have chosen. Quickly we visited to the classes that have no desks and shortly the bell rang and the teacher told them the news that desks were en route. The teacher gave the children the option of continuing on their way home for lunch or to stay to help off load the desks. The Children chose to stay so that they could witness the tractor arriving. They were so excited that they jumped onto the trailer and started offloading immediately. When the work was done and we had arranged the desks in the first classroom, the children took turns in sitting at the desks, a “sitting test” if you like as they had previously only ever sat on rocks and stones in these classrooms – you could feel their excitement.
We also handed over teaching supplies on this visit, four boxes of stationary that the teachers and Patrice, our Lake Manyara Chef, helped to open and distribute, these much needed supplies, to all the Students. It was a fun and happy moment for all teachers and students at Moyo Primary School.
Scott and his Lake Manyara Tree Lodge Team, as well as the Community and Children of the Moyo Primary School which to extend their heartfelt thanks and sincere gratitude to Marilyn and Don and to the Runyon Family, for changing the lives of the Children and Teachers of this little school – they have progressed from sitting on the rocks to now being seated comfortably at proper desks.
To Every &Beyond Guest that has so generously given to our Community Projects at Lake Manyara Tree Lodge– we are so grateful for your kindness and generosity of Spirit, for without you, this would not be possible
Asante Sana

Tonya,
