ECO-SENSITIVITY

At &Beyond we believe that we are responsible to the planet and the environment in which we operate our business. We show our commitment to “Care of the Land. Care of the Wildlife. Care of the People” by looking for ways to contribute and give more to these wild spaces. But we also believe that we can reduce our impact on the earth without compromising our guest experience.

Give More, Take Less

We operate a high-yield, low-impact model by creating very small luxury lodges that can support enormous tracts of biodiverse land, which remains untouched and untrammeled. But, even though &Beyond 's footprint is very small (less than 450 bedrooms in total, which, in turn, support over two million acres of precious wildlife land), each lodge has a Green Team who are champions of our philosophy to “give more” and “take less”.

At every lodge and office we can seek out small but meaningful ways of putting our values into action each day. We understand that delighting our guests is the most important thing we can do to sustain our business and thus sustain the wilderness areas we protect. However, within this model, our Green Teams look for ideas such as camp and land clean-ups, ways to reduce our energy consumption and carbon emissions, recycling initiatives, conservation awareness drives, water efficiency, elimination of pollution, addressing road damage and erosion, regreening and many more.

Green Team members come from all levels of staff and from any department. They are the drivers who ensure that each department, behind the scenes, finds practical ways of reducing our impact and creating a better company in a better world.

Understanding our Impact

Each &Beyond lodge supports a significant wildlife estate and contributes to their neighbouring communities, both of which have immensely positive impact and sustainability. However, to understand and manage some of our negative impact, monthly measures are taken of the following and are taken into the accounting of the business performance of each lodge:

FOSSIL FUELS

  • Water usage
  • Electricity consumption
  • Diesel and petrol consumption
  • Gas and paraffin usage (illuminating and cooking)

RENEWABLE ENERGY

  • Firewood and charcoal
  • Solar power (not measured directly but through reductions in other fuel usage)
  • Water and waste management
  • Water usage
  • Waste production

RECYCLING

  • Recycled wet waste
  • Recycled non-organic waste
  • Recycled water
