Walking adventures by day & romance by night

&Beyond ’s tailormade Walking Safaris give guests the best possible walking experience in South Africa’s Big Five wilderness. Available at &Beyond Phinda, Ngala and Kwandwe Private Game Reserves and Kirkman’s Kamp, these private guided safaris on foot are perfect for groups of up to just six people.

Guests’ safety is paramount and only the most expertly trained and qualified &Beyond guides host these walks. All &Beyond ’s professional walking guides must have a minimum of two years’ experience with the company and as part of their Level 2 certification, they have all completed a certain number of walks into big game before being entrusted to take guests out walking.

The guide will personalise the experience to suit the guests’ exact needs - should they wish to walk for two hours or all day, and should they wish to depart before dawn or after a leisurely lie-in. The aim is for guests to explore the surrounding wilderness on foot, taking time to observe the small wonders, such as spiders, ant lions, and dung beetles. Birding is a key component of all &Beyond ’s Walking Safaris. Along the way, a hearty al fresco brunch is served under a shady tree, followed by a siesta in a hammock.

After indulging in an exhilarating wilderness adventure by day, guests are wrapped in romance and sheer luxury by night. Delicious dinners under the stars are accompanied by a selection of fine wine, after which guests retire to their suites and relax in a steaming bubble bath.

Should guests wish to spend an adventurous night in the wilderness, a sleepout under the stars can be arranged (the nightly lodge accommodation rate will still be charged; sleepouts are available at Phinda and Ngala only and are weather-dependent). A hearty bush dinner is served around a roaring fire, and guests will sleep soundly amid the night sounds of the African bush.

In addition to the nightly accommodation costs, these tailormade Walking Safaris are priced at R6 120 per group per night based on a minimum two-night stay (for a maximum of six guests at a time - no minimum). Walking Safaris are regrettably not suitable for children under 16 years of age.
