Frequently Asked Questions
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the &BEYOND media policy and do you offer media rates?

We are always willing to assist our media partners and to offer special rates, but this is handled on a case by case basis and is dependent on the coverage being offered, the time of the year and availability at the lodge requested. No media rates are offered at Mnemba Island Lodge.

Does &BEYOND offer hosted media trips?

Yes, a few hosted media trips to our various markets are arranged throughout the year but are highly dependent on new product offerings, availability and the time of the year. Please contact us to find out more about specific dates and departures.

Does a media visit include gratuity?

No, however this is entirely at your discretion.

Do film crews require filming permits?

Yes, film permits will be required by certain countries and almost all National Parks. This should be arranged prior to arrival in the country directly with the embassy and it is advisable to travel with all relevant documentation.

Are there restrictions on the amount of filming equipment allowed?

Yes, especially if your itinerary includes charter flights, as the baggage allowance usually ranges from 15-20 kgs (33-44 lb) per person. However, additional seats can be purchased to offset extra luggage and costs vary accordingly. The baggage allowance on scheduled charter flights is usually one standard piece of hand luggage (max 5 kgs or 11 lb) and one piece of standard checked-in hold luggage (max 20 kgs or 44 lb). Soft bags are requested.

Do we need to pay Park Fees?

Yes, almost all National Parks charge a Park Fee, which can be paid upon entrance in cash. Park Fees are not charged at &Beyond’S private concessions; please contact us for specific details.

Do I require a visa?

Visas are required for most countries where &Beyond’S luxurious lodges are situated and it is therefore advisable to contact your local embassy to find out the exact requirements.

Do you have Internet access?

Yes, most of our lodges across the group offer Internet access; please contact us for specific details.

Do you have laptop dial-up facilities in the rooms?

Some lodges offer this facility but it can be limited in remote areas such as Botswana and at Serengeti Under Canvas in Tanzania. Please check before departure.

What kind of medical precautions do I need to take?

Please consult your physician or health department for the latest health and anti-malarial precautions. Some countries require advance inoculations (and certificates thereof), so please ensure that you take the necessary precautions.

What should I wear?

You will require comfortable, casual and semi-casual clothes. Please note that bright colours are not suitable for game viewing safaris in Africa and India, and that game drives are conducted in the early morning and late afternoon, which can be cold, especially in winter.

What should I pack?

A few packing suggestions include: light cotton trousers, cotton shorts, light cotton shirts (long and short sleeved), comfortable walking shoes, sandals, shower-proof rain jacket / windbreaker, sun hat, fleece, insect repellent, small torch, bathing suit, suntan lotion, sunglasses, camera (telephoto lens recommended) and binoculars. For winter, pack an extra warm jacket, woollen hat, scarf and gloves. Batteries, camera film, sunscreen and an extensive range of branded safari wear can be bought from most of our lodge safari shops.

Can I drink the water?

Tap water in the rooms at our African lodges has been purified, however, should the water be salty to your taste, complimentary bottles of mineral water are supplied in the rooms and with meals. Complimentary bottled water is also available at our lodges in India and Latin America.

What style and type of meals are on offer?

All &Beyond’S camps and lodges are world-renowned for their delicious food – fresh ingredients, simply prepared with a unique local flavour.

Do you cater for specific diets?

Yes, all dietary requirements will be catered for. When making your reservation, please advise us of any specific dietary requirements that you may have and these will be communicated immediately to the lodge. Should specific items, such as kosher meals, need to be flown in, there will be an additional charge, which will be quoted separately. Two weeks' notice is required for kosher meals.

How are &BEYOND’s trackers and rangers trained?

Over 200 full-time rangers, guides and trackers are employed across the group, and are trained at one of our intensive in-house ranger training schools. Our guides are renowned for their heartfelt enthusiasm and excellent knowledge of their natural surroundings. Guest safety is paramount at all times.

Do you distribute a media newsletter?
