&Beyond: Melissa's Travel Blog

I LOVE East Africa – and more especially sending Guests there – here’s why….
Dear Melissa,
Africa was wonderful as was &Beyond. Thank you for making the plans and the suggestions. Nothing went haywire, and there is nothing to complain about. My favorite places were the Mara and Serengeti. There’s really no need to go to Amboseli because no one ever sees Mt. Killy (you can actually see the top of the mountain whilst on one of the many flights), and there are just as many herds of elephants in other parks. You were right about spending only 2 nights in the Crater. That’s all one needs there because the animals are so far away from the roads, and no off road traffic is allowed. I saw the big 5 in 2 hours my second day in the Mara.
My favorite people were the guides…Benson at Bateleur, Abdoullah at Manyara, Kim at the Crater, and Seleu at Klein’s. Malika at Bateleur is a wonderful asset to your company as well as being the most naturally happy person I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. On the first game drive in the Mara, I lost the &Beyond bag I got upon arrival and didn’t notice it missing until we got back to the lodge. Do you know Benson got me back in the jeep (it was getting dark, and we only had 30 minutes to look until the park closed), and he found the bag in a gully – not on the road – in a gully. In all of Africa he found the bag with lots of important stuff in it. My hat’s off to him and his guiding skills. Getting to know Seleu was another wonderful experience, and we got to see and hear a leopard close up and personal, roaring at the moon my last night in the Serengeti.
Again, thank you for making such a memorable trip so memorable. My only suggestion would be to build a dirt road so one could drive from the Mara to the Serengeti or vice-versa instead of having to take so many different flights and planes, but I don’t think that’s going to happen.
You are lucky to live in such a beautiful and magical land.
Best regards, Lloyd
