Conservation & Community at Mahua Kothi
At &Beyond we seek to maintain a low impact on the land while deriving high yield for our conservation initiatives by creating very small luxury lodges that support enormous tracts of biodiverse land, which remains untouched.
At every &Beyond lodge we seek out small (and sometimes not so small) but meaningful ways of putting our values into action every day. Each lodge supports the conservation of wildlife and contributes to its neighbouring communities in one way or another.
In addition, we seek to limit our impact in terms of fossil fuels, the use of renewable energy, water and waste management, and recycling.
Mahua Kothi Conservation Lessons are a Hit!
Accompanied by their teachers, children from the local community arrive at the lodge ready and willing to learn about their surrounding wilderness. The group ventures into Bandhavgarh National Park in safari vehicles accompanied by trained naturalists. The children learn why the jungle is so important, and usually have great wildlife sightings which include chital, wild boar, sambar, peafowl, monkeys and a tiger. After their exciting game drive, the children return to the lodge for tea, coffee, biscuits and pakodas.
Mahua Kothi Makes School Fun!
Recent guests visiting Mahua Kothi have helped to make a difference in the lives of over 147 children at the Government Middle School in Ranchha. One group of guests purchased 30 stationery kits from the Safari Shop and visited the school to distribute them to the children. So touched by the whole process, one of the guests purchased another 50 kits to be distributed. The story keeps spreading and since then guests frequently purchase such kits. The children are delighted, and the teachers report that their students are excited to come to school every day to write and sketch with their brand new pens, pencils and crayons.
