&Beyond: Karen's Travel Blog

Ever wondered how we get our safari vehicles around the Okavango Delta?!

In South Africa, we have a saying – ‘n boer maak a plan.  Literally translated this means ‘a farmer makes a plan’.  Well is was a case of Clive King, Les Carlise and our maintenance team at Xaranna making a plan to get this done.

With the floodwaters having reached record levels this year, we needed to get two vehicles from &Beyond Xaranna Okavango Delta Lodge to Fig Tree, a place where we park our vehicles and leave them so that we can take guests on game drive where there is less water.

This is how it is done!

Remove the bonnet to modify the air intake system (don’t forget the sock air filter)

Walk the crossings to feel for holes or logs that might get in the way. And watch for crocodiles!
