A paradise of warm waters, sun-drenched beaches, eco-wonderlands and cosmopolitan people, KwaZulu-Natal is steeped in history, hospitality and adventure. From Durban’s bustling gateway to the historic battlefields where strategists Shaka and Winston Churchill showed their might, this sunny region is renowned for its two World Heritage sites, the pristine iSimangaliso (previously known as the Greater St Lucia) Wetland Park, which is nestled along the Elephant Coast and the breathtaking mountainous region of uKhahlamba-Drakensburg Park, which showcases a myriad of San Rock Art and is perfect for avid hikers.

Spend two nights at Oaklands Country Manor in a bruce suite with ensuite bathroom. Your stay includes breakfast.

Day 3 & 4:

After breakfast you will drive to Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse.
Known as the ‘Roof of Africa’ or ‘uKhahlamba’ (barrier of spears in Zulu), this magnificent mountain range, spanning 150 km (90 miles), towers over Kwa-Zulu Natal. With dark caves and sharp precipices where streams tumble into gorges, deep pools and cool forests, the range’s name – Drakensberg (dragon mountains) couldn’t be more fitting!

Although sightings of dragons and mysterious tracks were reported in former years, visitors today are more likely to enjoy spectacular walks and well-marked hikes, an abundance of icy streams and waterfalls, as well as beautiful bird, plant and animal life.

Spend two nights at Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse in a luxury suite with fireplace and ensuite bathroom. Your stay includes dinner, bed, breakfast, tea & coffee making facilities with homemade biscuits and complimentary sherry in the suite.

Day 5 & 6:

After breakfast, self drive to Hartford House.

The 200 km (125 mile) wide area known as the Midlands is made up of a never-ending sea of green rolling hills, deep river valleys, waterfalls and gorges. No wonder it was the favoured grazing ground of the vast herds that used to migrate here for the winter months.

With just a few resident San hunters who followed the game, the area was a place of peace until 1818, when Shaka began building the mighty Zulu Nation.

Thereafter, it seemed that anyone who entered – be they Zulu, Boer or English – paid for the intrusion in blood.

The region today is once again a picture of serenity and the well-known Midlands Meander invites guests on a tour of a network of cottage industries that produce exquisite local crafts, furniture and delicious farm produce.

Spend two nights at Hartford House in a manor suite with ensuite bathroom. Your stay includes breakfast.
