Income Generating Activities
While education provides long-term benefits for some members of impoverished communities, there is also the need to seek innovative forms of generating income. We attempt to do this by identifying the entrepreneurial spirit in each community and supporting it with product and skills training programmes, capacity building and access to technology.
Craft markets
Craft markets managed by the local crafters on tourist routes near the wilderness reserves where &Beyond operates are another channel for communities to benefit from tourism.
"I came to this market only knowing how to weave baskets and ukhambas. Now that I have learned beadwork from the other women I can make many more things and send my children to school."

Bridging the digital divide
Established in the Mduku community near &Beyond Phinda Private Game Reserve, the Digital Eco-Village Centre (DevCentre) provides access to the latest technology, as well as instruction on how to use it. Computer courses, access to the Internet and digital communications technology have brought new knowledge and skills to this rural area.
