About Us

Africa's warm, generous and friendly people are part of its allure. But, just as the continent’s wilderness areas and endangered species need protection, so many of its people require meaningful support. The Africa Foundation is an independent, non-profit organisation that attempts to unite these two goals with the support of &Beyond and its guests.

By consulting with community leaders, we have found three areas of community life where our support is most needed - education, health care and income generation. We combine our experience and access to resources, as well as generous assistance from &Beyond's guests, with the communities' local knowledge to provide meaningful assistance.

There are two reasons why we can carry out our projects as effectively and efficiently as we do - the leadership structures of the communities that we work with and the guests who enable us to do what we do. Projects are selected together with the community and involve them, ensuring they are sustainable in the long term.

The Africa Foundation works in the rural communities surrounding the conservation areas where &Beyond's lodges are located. While conservation remains one of our key aims, we believe it is also vital for it to benefit the rural communities involved.
