Good Luck Comes in Threes
Not everyone is lucky enough to have witnessed the endangered African wild dog in the wild. These highly social, ever-active animals live in packs and it is a real privilege to observe them in their natural habitat. Fantastic news for &Beyond guests, we have African wild dogs denning on three of our properties this year: &Beyond Kirkman’s Kamp and &Beyond Ngala Private Game Reserve in South Africa and &Beyond Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp in Botswana.
At &Beyond Kirkman’s Kamp, there are nine adorable eleven-week-old puppies keeping guests and staff highly entertained by their playful antics. Over at &Beyond Ngala, there are also nine puppies the same age being seen and photographed regularly by guests. Typically, once the puppies are three months old, the pack will normally vacate the den and move off, but for now, the incredible sightings continue.
Just a few weeks ago, a den site was discovered on our private wildlife concession at &Beyond Xaranna in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. It is the same pack that denned on the concession last year and the nine gorgeous puppies have only just emerged from the den.
What an honour it is to observe the fascinating social structure of African wild dogs and to watch their puppies grow up.
